Vivi's History: As we advance through the game, we learn more about who, or what Vivi exactly is. As we notice it while exploring the machinery in Dali's underground, all Black Mages are born from the Mist, in eggs. Vivi was first of all found in egg-form in the Mist near Treno, by a Qu named Quan. Being as vorace as Quina, Quan first wanted to breed him to eat him later, but noticing that our Black Mage was remaining small in size after "hatching", he then decided to bring him up as a son until his death. Finding himself alone, Vivi started to travel the Mist Continent on his own, until he got into Alexandria by airship, thanks to the benevolence of an airship pilot from Treno. Once in Alexandria, he met Puck, the Prince of Burmecia, who ran away from his hometown. Seeing that Vivi had no ticket to see "I want to be your Canary", he decided to help him breaking into the castle by the rooves of the Alexandrian city. There, the two got pursued by Pluto Knights, then Vivi accidentally found himself on the stage of the Prima Vista, right before the ship took off in emergency, with Zidane, Garnet/Dagger and Steiner on board. After the crash of the ship in Evil Forest, Vivi learned more about his three new comrades, who felt particularly concerned about him, especially Steiner who insisted upon making him more courageous and suggested him to enhance his sword with magic spells. But the truth about the village of Dali had particularly struck him. Knowing that the Black Mages he found there and in the airship bound to Alexandria were nothing but dolls, and after watching in horror this entire population being destroyed by Black Waltz #3's wrath, despite Zidane and Dagger's comfort, Vivi started to wonder if he was really and truly alive. So he decided to remain by Zidane's side until he would eventually find an answer. The discovery he made in the Black Mage village made him worry more and more about himself and about death, yet after the brief encounter with Soulcage inside the Iifa Tree, then with Kuja, Vivi got convinced he and the other Black Mages in the village were not "puppets" and got determined to fight for them. It is very possible that the monologue in the end of the game (after Zidane meets Kuja for the last time inside the Iifa Tree) is Vivi's last words. However, as the story ends, Vivi seems to have more faith in himself and in life, and has apparently found a way to create six exact copies of himself (in the same cuteness) that we see coming in Alexandria in a short sequence involving them and Puck, and in the ending FMV.
