Basic info: - Original name: Bibi Orunitia, kept as such in the French version, translated by "Vivi Ornitier" in the US version. The last name "Ornitier" is only used once in the instruction booklet, but never in the game itself. "Vivi" is the result of a slight misinterpretation of the Japanese katakana: it is true that some English words containing "V-" syllables have those syllables turning in "B-" since "V-" doesn't exist in Japanese, but Japanese people have now found a way to express the "V-" in katakana. Proof is in the way "Irvine" is written in Final Fantasy 8. - Age: 9. To the best of my knowledge, this makes Vivi the third youngest playable character from the Final Fantasy series, closely followed by Relm from FF6 (10 years old), and older than Eiko (6 years old) and Lydia from FF4 (5 years old). - Class: Black Mage - Quote(s): 3 origins, 3 different "starter quotes"! "How do you prove you exist? Maybe we don't exist..." (US version, hence the name of the site ;-) "Is living enough to prove that we're alive?" (French version. I don't like this one, frankly...) "If I can't prove I am alive, is it same as dead?" (extracted from the Final Fantasy IX art book) - Weapon: Mage Cane. - First appearance: during the intro sequence of the game, when the Prima Vista comes to Alexandria. Vivi runs to the Alexandrian Square and looks over to the Prima Vista, apparently in amazement. You even get to control him in the streets of Alexandria after this FMV. Other than that, despite his chubby body, Vivi appears to be lighter than a feather: Zidane lifted him without any problem during the Southern Gate FMV, and our Black Mage could have been easily wiped off the Hilda Garde by the strong gusts from the Wind Shrine, if it wasn't for Steiner... |
