FF10's heroin returns! The former Summoner, now a Sphere hunter, travels Spira with her two comrades Rikku and Paine, in search for spheres containing the history of Spira, but also clues that could lead to one of her friends... However Yuna doesn't know that the Songstress Sphere is much more than just an item to win battles with songs and dances...
History:A little off-topic-ness first... I write Final Fantasy 10-2 and say it "ten two" instead of "EX-two". Why? Cos Final Fantasy "EX" does not exist. This is Final Fantasy, not Megaman, people. Sorry.
So... I know this might look weird for most of you, right? Well, the idea of doing a crossplay (crossdressing + cosplay) had been in my mind since the end of 2003, but I wasn't sure about which character to do. Not to forget the most important: will my family support me for this?
It all started when an online friend told me she would like to see me as Yuna. That might have been a joke at the time, but neither of us would know that I would eventually have this idea in mind... and FF10-2 hadn't hit Europe yet.
Now that I've done Yuna, you probably want to ask me "Why?". I won't back down just by saying "Because it's Yunie.". I really like her Songstress outfit and its blue hues, moreover Yuna's sensual dance routine during the "real emotion" sequence is captivating. And the "1000 Words" song and FMV are so beautiful, I can't help crying every time I watch it (I'm not kidding!). I also have some skill in singing and "1000 Words" doesn't seem too hard for a male like me to sing so... why wouldn't I just go and sing it in an upcoming convention? Yeah, why not? Most people ask "why" but never "why not?".
A rather nice list of statements to defend my POV in front of my mother who eventually accepted after a long time. She hasn't completely taken for granted the existence of crossplay though, but she agreed to help nevertheless. Phew!
Making Yuna's costume is apparently easier than rallying my mother. I chose to use Zidane's vest as a model for Yuna's blue vest, cut the pieces and assembled them by myself (the first time I'm the one to achieve such an operation). The ruffled edge and part of the dangling half-skirt was also designed by myself and assembled by my mother.
The hairtail was bought on eBay, and I found the boots for just 30 Euros (hurray for sales periods). Since I'm already lucky to have found the right colour and the right size, I prefer not to degrade them by making them look exactly like Yuna's / Lenne's.
